Team Event 2024
Our team event took us out of the office and into the stunning mountain landscape of the Bernese Oberland. We started in Bern and experienced an exciting and varied day that led us through historic towns, up breathtaking peaks, and into thick fog. Such a trip not only fosters team spirit but also the shared joy of nature. There were numerous beautiful moments, engaging conversations, and funny anecdotes that made this day unforgettable. The team outing was one of the highlights of our joint week with our international colleagues, who visited us from Serbia and Croatia for a week in Switzerland.
In the morning, our team met at Bern station, ready for an exciting day. Once everyone had gathered, we boarded the train to Thun. The anticipation was high, and the first conversations about the upcoming activities began during the train ride. The 30-minute journey to Thun flew by, and upon arrival, we were greeted by a charming town that immediately captivated us with its historical charm and clear waters.
We were particularly impressed by the old weirs, which we examined more closely. We also watched two brave wakeboarders, sparking a lot of conversation. Training barefoot in the standing wave in cold October made us shiver – although the two were probably better protected by their neoprene suits than we thought.
After exploring the weirs and soaking in the sights of Thun, it was time for the next leg of our journey. We made our way to the boat, ready to take in the views from the Thunersee.
Some team members pointed out the homes of friends and relatives along the lake's shore. Sailing and motorboats on the lake were also a topic of conversation, and local team members exchanged stories about the places we could see from the boat. Despite the overcast weather, the mood on board was great.
The historic railway made the first part of our journey up the mountain an experience.
At the top, we were greeted by thick fog that was so dense we could hardly see our hands in front of our faces.
But despite the gloomy weather, the mood remained upbeat, and we were all motivated by the prospect of a cozy Apéro Riche.
While we enjoyed the food and drinks, there was much laughter. The gloomy weather was a recurring theme – from "at least it's not raining" to "we might as well be stuck in a cloud." And indeed, just as we finished our meal, the fog began to lift.
For about an hour, we were able to break through the fog and enjoy the breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. Some of us took the opportunity for a short walk, while others snapped photos of this brief weather break. The moment when the cloud cover opened was magical and enjoyed to the fullest by all of us.
One group stayed a little longer at Niederhorn and continued to hike, while the other group took the cable car to the middle station, where they collected the scooters.
Some of us had to clean and dry our pants afterward, which led to a lot of laughter. Those who chose the scooter adventure arrived in Beatenberg, dirty but happy.
Once the hiking group had joined us, we took the post bus to Interlaken. Once there, we walked through the bustling tourist area and took a short break at the Schuh restaurant. An "Oberland Coffee" in the cozy atmosphere of the restaurant brought back childhood memories for some of us, who had often visited here with their families. The convivial atmosphere and the conversations about past experiences rounded off the trip perfectly.
One participant told us how they had brought their camera but forgotten the memory card. This reminded us of the times when you took pictures only to find out later that no film had been loaded. The unusual seat numbering on the trains was also a topic – a pattern that seemed mysterious to all of us and even remained unsolved by the conductor. These little anecdotes brought much laughter and made the return journey fly by.
At the end of the day, we all agreed: The outing was a complete success! During our trip, we used a total of seven different means of transportation: train, on foot, boat, funicular, cable car, scooter, and post bus. Despite the fog and dirty trousers, we had a lot of fun, got to know each other better, and enjoyed the time away from everyday work. We are ready for the next adventure!
The day was a welcome change and once again showed how important such team events are to strengthen camaraderie. It was not only a trip into nature but also an opportunity to get to know colleagues from a different perspective and share experiences. We are already looking forward to the next adventure!
